Thailand to host two regional meetings on Myanmar

Thailand announced on December 16 that it will host two regional meetings on Myanmar this week, with at least one participated by representatives of Myanmar's military junta.

Bangkok (VNA) - ꧟Thailand announced on December 16 that it will host two regional meetings on Myanmar this week, with at least one participated by representatives of Myanmar's military junta.

According to Nikorndej Balankura, Spokesman for the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Sangiampongsa will hold a separate consultation on December 19 on border security and transnational crime, which will see the attendance of representatives from Myanmar and all countries that share borders with Myanmar, including China, India, Bangladesh, Laos and Thailand.
Thailand will also host an informal consultation meeting among ASEAN member countries on the Myanmar issue on December 20, including discussions on implementing ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus on Myanmar. The spokesman stressed that hosting these meetings reflects Thailand's constructive role in promoting frank discussions among relevant countries on measures to boost cooperation in resolving issues of mutual concern or benefit. In a statement issued on the same day, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Chairman of ASEAN in 2025, said he is committed to implementing the ASEAN peace plan, which has made little progress since it was announced in April 2021 shortly after the military coup in Myanmar./.
