Thailand pushes to supply rice to Indonesia

The Thai Foreign Ministry affirms that Thailand is pushing ahead withplans to supply up to 1 million tonnes of rice to Indonesia.

Following a meeting with Indonesian counterpart Marty Natalegawa duringhis official visit to Thailand, Foreign Minister SurapongTovichakchaikul said the kingdom is in the process of renegotiatingterms and conditions of the government-to-government rice contract whichwas inked in 2011.

In March of that year, a memorandum ofunderstanding was signed in which Thailand will supply up to 1million tonnes of rice to Indonesia . Thailand hopes to sell asmuch as 3 million tonnes of rice to Indonesia, Bangladesh and thePhilippines this year.

Surapong elaborated that during thebilateral talks, both parties also discussed possible arrangement of thenext Thai-Indonesian Joint Commission and the East Sea dispute.-VNA
