Thailand opens more tourism sandboxes in southern region

Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has approved a new round of relaxed entry measures for international arrivals to Thailand, opening three more Sandbox destinations of Krabi, Phang-Nga, and Surat Thani from January 11, in addition to Phuket.

Bangkok (VNA) - Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 SituationAdministration (CCSA) has approved a new round of relaxed entry measures forinternational arrivals to Thailand, opening three more Sandbox destinations of Krabi,Phang-Nga, and Surat Thani from January 11, in addition to Phuket. 

Accordingly, international travellers will be able to travelto Thailand under the Sandbox programme, and can choose to undergo theirmandatory 7-day stay in either Krabi, Phang-Na, Phuket, or Surat Thani (only KoSamui, Ko Phangan, and Ko Tao islands).

However, all travellers must make sure that they arrangeeverything in order before applying for the Sandbox Thailand Pass. This caninclude, but not limited to, a vaccination certificate, a pre-arrival negativeRT-PCR test result, prepaid 7-night’s accommodation in an approved hotel,prepaid RT-PCR tests for when in Thailand, and an insurance policy withcoverage no less than 50,000 USD.

Travellers must stay at least the first 7 nights within aSandbox destination if planning to continue the journey to other destinationsin Thailand. If staying less than 7 nights, the traveller must leave Thailandto another country immediately.

The CCSA also approved the measure to maintain temporary suspension of theThailand Pass system for new registrations under the Exemption from Quarantine(Test & Go). The Test & Go programme began on November 1, 2021, and hasbeen suspended from December 22, due to a surge in the number of new COVID-19cases and the appearance of variant Omicron.

Thailand announced on January 9 that the country hadrecorded an addition 8,511 new cases and 12 deaths over the past 24 hours, raisingthe national tallies to 2,269,550 and 21,825, respectively./.
