Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha announced on September 15 that he will curtail the general election procedure, which is traditionally scheduled over 20 months.
The point of view was discussed during a meeting between the National Legislative Assembly and the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) chaired by the PM on the same day.
According to Prayut, the roadmap to elections called “6-4 6-4” will be changed to “4-3.5- 4-3.5.” Each figure represents the number of months the various stages of the journey are scheduled to take, thus the election period could be shortened to 15 months.
At the meeting, participants also discussed preparations for the establishment of the National Reform Conduction Committee (NRSC) and a new Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC), according to NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai.-VNA
Thailand may suspend its general election until April 2017 if the National Reform Council (NRC) does not ratify the new constitution draft during its meeting next month.
