Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand and Laos have signedan agreement on pollution management, creating a five-year mutual action planto promote bilateral cooperation in environmental issues.
The deal was inked by Thai Natural Resources and Environment Minister SurasakKarnjanarat and Laos' Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister BoonkamWorajid late last week.
Thai media quoted Thai Pollution Control Department Director-General JatupornBuruspat as saying that the two countries will cooperate in such as managementof air, noise and water pollution, garbage, hazardous wastes and chemicals;emergency responses; and related laws.
The cooperation is part of the Memorandum of Understandingsigned between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailandand its Lao counterpart in a conference in Vientiane on July 20, 2017, whichcalls for the creation of a five-year action plan between the two countrieseffective from 2017-2021 to promote academic cooperation on environment andpollution management.
The action plan will create engagements via knowledgeexchanges, conferences, training programmes, visits, and research.-VNA
