Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Thailand's Tarutao Islands National Park has been declared as an area freeof plastic and styrofoam containers for current maritime tourismseason. 

AssistantPark Director Kittipong Sanui said during the launching ceremony ofSatun Andaman Tourism Season that the Department of Natural Park,Wildlife, and Plant Conservation has imposed a ban on the use and importof once-used plastic and styrofoam containers since August to reduce avolume of waste. 

Hesaid the measure has obtained good cooperation from tourists and localbusinesses, and is being promoted in the media at information points,tourist attractions, and piers. 

Thenational park office is also enhancing safety measures for visitors, byhaving officials undergo rescue and lifesaving workshops in order tokeep them prepared for any unforeseen incident. 

TarutaoNational Park off Satun is home to 51 islands scattering across 1,490square kilometers. Most of the land areas are covered by tropical andmangrove forests. The national park is famous for its canals and streamsflowing into the sea. - NNT/VNA
