Bangkok (VNA)🃏 – Thailand and Japan have agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties.
The initiative was affirmed during meetings between newly-appointed Japanese Ambassador to Thailand Shiro Sadoshima, and Thai Deputy Prime Ministers Wissanu Krea-ngam and M.R Pridiyathorn Devakula .
The ambassador highlighted that Japan has pledged to support Thailand in economic development.
In return, Deputy PM Wissanahu said the Thai government is implementing reform proces, and informed him that the country will hold a general election by June 2017.
Meanwhile Deputy PM M.P Pridiyathorn Devakula acknowledged the two countries’ economic cooperation prospects are huge, and that Japan is a leading potential partner for Thailand in major economic, and infrastructural projects in the future.
During a meeting with Japanese PM Shizo Abe in Tokyo last November 2015, Thai Deputy PM Somkid Jatusripitak, said Thailand is very interested in the Trans-Pacific-Partnership (TPP) agreement and expects to cooperate with Japan regarding this matter.
PM Abe affirmed that Japan welcomed Thailand to join the TPP, and Tokyo is at hand to provide relevant information to Bangkok.
Besides intensifying cooperation in trade, investment and tourism, the two sides have also agreed to bolster collaboration to develop Thailand’s railway system, among other infrastructural projects that Thailand cooperate with other regional countrie.
Currently, Japan is Thailand’s biggest foreign investor and its second largest trade partner, after China, with bilateral trade turnover in 2015 surpassing 40 billion USD.-VNA
