Thailand implements strict screening policy of travellers

Bangkok (VNA/NNT) - The Commissionerof the Immigration Bureau of Thailand has called for strict monitoring ofpeople travelling in and out of the country during the New Year holiday, whilepreliminary reports reveal no sign of violence perpetration.

Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau Pol Lt GenNatathorn Prausoonthorn revealed that his agency has implemented stringentpolicies in screening people traveling in and out of the country during thistime, adding that the screening process is in accordance to internationalstandards.

In addition, agents will be deployed out of uniform to conduct random checks,he said.

He said that the system in place willautomatically identify those who have a warrant against them or are on thebureau’s blacklist. His agency has also incorporated bio-metric identificationtechnology into its screening process.

Pol Lt Gen Natathorn added that his agency hascollaborated with the army as well as intelligence agencies to monitor allpotential terrorist threats, while preliminary reports revealed no sign ofmalicious plots.-VNA
