Bangkok (VNA)ℱ – Women are an important force in driving Thailand’s development, Thai Prime Minister PrayutChan-o-cha declared in a televised speech marking InternationalWomen’s Day on March 8.

Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said the PrimeMinister hopes to create opportunities for everybody, especially women whoaccount for more than half of the country’s population. “The government is promoting women’s role in society andcalling on all sectors to change their attitudes towards women,” Anucha quotedPrayut as saying. The government aims to promote women of all ages toparticipate in economic and social development to create gender equality in thecountry, he said. On the occasion of Women’s Day, the PMwishes Thai women happiness, good health, and success.

The United Nations officially recognised March 8 asInternational Women’s Day in 1977./.
