Phnom Penh (VNA)ไ – Thai army chief General ChalermchaiSitthisart met with Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen and Minister of National Defence,General Tea Banh on December 19.

This is the first Cambodia visit of General Chalermchai asThailand’s army chief. According to Cambodian Prime Minister spokesman Eang Sophalleth,during the meeting with Hun Sen, General Chalermchai vowed to promote Thailand-Cambodiamilitary relations and cooperation, for the benefit of people of bothcountries. For his part, Prime Minister Hun Sen stressed the importance ofenhancing army cooperation of the two countries to ensure peace, security anddevelopment along their shared border. He also encouraged the two armies to closely cooperate in tacklingtransnational criminals. Earlier the same day, General Chalermchai held talks with GeneralTea Banh, discussing measures to promote relations of the two countries’armies. General Chalermchai was assigned as Thailand’s army chief inSeptember after General Teerachai Narkvanich retired.-VNA
