Thailand actively makes preparations for 35th ASEAN Summit

Bangkok (VNA) – Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on October 25 chaireda meeting of the national committee responsible for organising the 35th ASEANSummit that the country will host in early November.
Accordingto the Thai Government Spokesperson Narumon Pinyosinwat, the PM asked forefforst to ensure security plans to meet international standards.
The35th ASEAN Summit and related meetings will take place in Bangkokand nearby Nonthaburi province from November 2-4. Senior officials from ASEAN membercountries will gather from October 30 to prepare for the event.
Narumonsaid that leaders of ASEAN members and Japan, the Republic of Korea and Chinawill meet on November 4, one day after the opening of the 35th ASEANSummit.
ThaiForeign Minister Don Pramudwinai early revealed that Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, KoreanPresident Moon Jae-in and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang will come to Thailand tojoin the event.
Accordingto Narumon, other ASEAN dialogue partners to attend the meetings include Australia,India and New Zealand, along with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and IMFManaging Director Kristalina Georgieva.
USPresident Donald Trump has been invited, but no confirmation of attendance hasbeen given, she added.
TheThai Foreign Ministry said that the leaders will discuss the cooperation forsustainable stability, border management, cyber-security, trans-national crimecombat, disaster mitigation, sustainable development, economic acceleration,the Fourth Industrial Revolution, among others.
About3,000 officials and reporters will come to Thailand for the events.
Publicoffices in Bangkok and Nonthaburi will have two additional days off on November4-5 to ease traffic congestion.
