PhnomPenh (VNA)♛ – Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen urgedauthorities to have water pipes connected fromThailand’s Trat province to supply water to Koh Kong province as the southernCambodian locality is facing drought.

Speaking to about 13,000 garment workers in Koh Kong, Hun Sen expressedhis concern that the province faces a serious shortage of water, adding thatThai officials agreed with his suggestion. The Phnom Penh Post reported that residents in Khmarak Phoumincity, Koh Kong province have spent a great deal on clean water from Thailandfor daily use during the dry season from March – May. The Cambodian Ministry of Water Resources andMeteorology forecast that this year’s dry season will last till late Maywith temperatures as high as 42 Celsius degrees. The ministry’s spokesperson said the provincesof Battambang, Koh Kong, Prey Veng, Kampong Thom, Oddar Meanchey and PreahVihear are likely to be hard hit by drought. In 2016, Cambodia suffered a severe droughtacross the country. Its government launched campaigns to pump and transportwater to many localities.-VNA
