Bangkok (VNA)ꦬ – Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has rejected proposals for granting amnesty for political offenders for the sake of “national reconciliation”.

The prime minister told reporters on July 1 that he would not allow any gathering of politicians to discuss the amnesty for protester leaders. The Thai military-run government currently bans political gatherings of five or more people.
Violators of the law will be given strict penalties, Chan-ocha said, affirming that there will be no exception in exchange for the restoration of peace.
Thai opposition politicians have intended to organise a meeting to talk political reconciliation next week and then submit their proposals on the issue to the government. The proposals are believed to mention a political amnesty. The meeting was initiated by Sudarat Keyuraphan, a politician from Pheu Thai Party.-VNA
