Bangkok (VNA) - ꦉGeneral Prayut Chan-o-cha is the public's leading choicefor the prime minister's post of Thailand, according to the result of anopinion survey by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, or Suan Dusit Poll.

The poll was carried out fromSeptember 5-8 on 1,132 people throughout the country to compile their opinionson the upcoming election, which is tentatively set for early 2019. Asked to name their choice for theprime minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha came first with 24.72 percent. Former Thai PM and leader of the DemocratParty Abhisit Vejjajiva was second at 17.57 percent, closely followed byKhunying Sudarat Keyuraphan of the Pheu Thai Party (16.53 percent).  Emerging political figure andentrepreneur Thanathorn Jungroongreangkit was fourth at 14.63 percent.Meanwhile, ousted PM Thaksin Shinawatra, who has been on a self-exile, wasfifth at 13.5 percent.   The remaining choices included former PMsChuan Leekpai and Yingluck Shinawatra. Asked whether they would vote forformer members of parliament or new faces, a majority of nearly 70 percent saidthey would be open to both, while 16.15 percent said they would stick to formerMPs and 13.97 percent said they would rather vote for new faces.-VNA
