Thai, Myanmar anti-corruption officials strengthen cooperation

Officials from Thailand's NACC and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Myanmar had a meeting on March 7 to strengthen cooperation in preventing and suppressing corruption.

Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Officials from Thailand'sNational Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and the Anti-Corruption Commission(ACC) of Myanmar had a meeting on March 7 to strengthen cooperationin preventing and suppressing corruption. 

The Chairman of the NACC, Pol. Gen. WatcharapolPrasarnrajkit, welcomed the Chairman of the ACC, U Aung Kyi, and his delegationduring their official visit to Thailand.

At the meeting, the ACC acknowledged the NACC's continuedefforts in receiving complaints, declaring the full extent of assets andliabilities of political office holders and government officials, and organisingan anti-corruption education programme.

Both agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to exchange their workingexperience and anti-corruption measures last year.-VNA

Thai Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Vuttikrai Leewiraphan Thailand's formal proposal will be substantial enough for the US to consider further detailed negotiations. He hoped for a tariff rate not exceeding 10% and suggested that the US might extend the negotiation period if an agreement is not reached by the July 8 deadline.
