Thai, Malaysian PMs discuss tourism cooperation

Bangkok (VNA)🌞 – Tourism cooperation underthe “Six Countries, One Destination” initiative, rising airfares and investmentin the food industry were among the topics discussed at a meeting betweenThai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and his Malaysian counterpart AnwarIbrahim on March 5.

Thai Government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke saidthat the two Prime Ministers met in Melbourne, Australiabefore attending the 2024 ASEAN-Australia Special Summit being held from March4-6 to celebrate 50 years since Australia became ASEAN's first DialoguePartner. He said that during the meeting, the two PMs discussedtourism cooperation under the initiative, which aims to promote mutual tourismamong Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. According to the spokesperson, PM Srettha also exchangedviews with the Malaysian PM on the rising cost of airfares and flightschedules, both of which could affect the travel plans of tourists. The two sidesagreed to work together to ensure seamless travel between the two countries viaall borders, as well as promote peace and security in the deep south ofThailand. Anwar said Malaysia is interested in investing in Thailand’sfood industry and also urged the Thai government to consider rolling outmeasures that will support the export of Thai rubber products to Malaysia. Srettha invited Anwar to join him in attending the ITB Berlin 2024, the world'slargest tourism trade fair, and MIPIM 2024 in Cannes. The latter is a globalconference on infrastructure and real estate, at which Thailand plans topropose the Land Bridge project bypassing the Malacca Strait in the South ofThailand./.
