Thai King approves new cabinet member list

Bangkok (VNA) – King of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn on November 24 approved the listof Thailand’s cabinet members proposed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha aweek ago.

The list, which was madepublic after the approval, changed 18 cabinet positions.

The reshuffle aimed tofocus on improving the effectiveness of agencies related to economy, However,major important cabinet members remained unchanged, excepting for seats in theMinistries of Commerce, Sports and Tourism, and Agriculture.

In the list of newcabinet members, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Chatchai Sarikulyatakes the position as a deputy prime minister, while Deputy PM ACM PrajinJuntong becomes the Minister of Justice.

Deputy PMs TanasakPatimapragorn and Narong Pipatnasai as well as Deputy Defence Minister UdomdejSitabutr no longer held their positions.

The reshuffle tookplace amidst the context of increasing complaints of socio-economic issues.Public opinion polls showed that the majority of Thai people demandbreakthrough changes in economic and social matters.

Poj Aramwattanaporn,Vice President of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade said that theadjustments are practical.

Meanwhile, TidaTawornseth, head of the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship,commented that the reshuffle is a preparation step of the government ahead ofthe general elections slated for late 2018.-VNA
