Bangkok (VNA) – Thai politicians whoheld office in the Abhisit Vejjajiva and Yingluck Shinawatra governments andown assets worth over 50 million THB (about 1.4 million USD) will be scrutinisedfor any tax evasion, local media reported on March 19, citing an announcementof Thailand’s Office of Auditor-General.
Speaking at a conference on anti-corruption,Auditor-General Office Chief Pisit Leelavachiropas said he recently sent a documentto the Revenue Department to ask foran evaluation of the assets and financial situations of those politicians tofind out if they have any outstanding income tax dues.
Assets of over 100 former officials have beenfound fluctuated and at least 60 of them could be liable to pay back taxes,noted Pisit.
The Revenue Department was assigned to track taxpayment under the monitoring of the Auditor-General Office.
Earlier, the Office had pushed the departmentfor collection of back taxes on the sale of Shin Corp shares by Thaksin familyin 2006.
The Office will also check tax records ofwealthy businesspersons as well as major groups that were among Thailand’srichest to find out if they have violated the law.-VNA
