Bangkok (VNA) ꦍ– Thai politicalparties and groups will be asked to sign an agreement to promote reconciliation,said the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National DefencePrawit Wongsuwan on January 16.

The agreement should be acceptable toall stakeholders so they can live together peacefully, noted Prawit, who wasassigned by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to oversee the reconciliation process. The process had nothing to do with grantingamnesty or royal pardon he added. The same day, he appointed a working group to push forward reconciliation. According to a survey inThailand, 70 percent of people said the current administration and politicalforces need to reach a compromise before conducting a general election. Nattawut Saikua, a leader of theUnited Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) expressed his suspicions ofthe reconciliation suggestions that the administration has given. However, the UDD leader said he iswilling to support the government’s efforts in national unity.-VNA
