Party building continues to be the main task of the northern province of Thai Binh in the 2015-2020 tenure in order to lead the province in fulfilling socio-economic goals, according to the political report at the provincial 19th Party Congress.
Presenting the report at the congress which opened on September 23, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Pham Van Sinh said that the local Party and people will continually promote solidarity, comprehensively intensify reform, maintain socio-political stability and mobilise available resources to develop the economy sustainably in order to foster modern agriculture and industry in the province.
Thai Binh will strive for an average growth rate of at least 8.6 percent a year, total social development investments of 166.5 trillion VND (7.3 billion USD), and for 75 percent of its communes to complete the new-style rural area building for the next five years, he stated.
Attention will be paid to restructuring the economy in combination with growth model innovation, and consolidating defence security.
Sinh continued to say that the province will focus on fostering administrative reform, increasing competitiveness, improving the investment and business environment, upgrading socio-economic infrastructure and developing human resources, especially skilled ones.
Speaking at the event, Politburo member and National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan praised the province’s achievements from 2010-2015 while pointing to several shortcomings to be addressed, including unsustainable economic development.
She asked the locality to tighten its connectivity with the key northern economic zone, the Red River Delta, as well as intensify collaboration with others in the region to develop its maritime economy, tourism, services, industry and agriculture.
Thai Binh should closely follow its socio-economic development master plan until 2020 to define priorities and allocate resources to ensure fulfilling targets, she suggested.
She also proposed the province attract more investment in agriculture and the coastal economic zone, encourage businesses to apply science and technology in production and develop traditional trade villages.
The same day, the northern province of Nam Dinh convened its 19th Party Congress for the 2015-2020 tenure, which was attended by Politburo member Pham Quang Nghi and Deputy Prime Ministers Pham Binh Minh and Vu Van Ninh.
