The Thai military administration on May 28 released several leaders of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), or "red shirts", – an ally of the toppled civilian government.

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) released UDD chairmanJatuporn Prompan and other figures such as Nuttawut Saikuar and PrachaPromnog.

The Bangkok Post on the same day quoteda reliable source at NCPO as saying that Thai former Prime MinisterYingluck Shinawatra is confirmed staying in Bangkok and not under housearrest.

Yingluck is allowed to travel freely inthe country, but not to leave Thailand, and has to inform the NCPO ifgoing outside Bangkok, the source said.

Earlier,she was held in army custody for one night after reporting to the NCPOon May 23 under the request of the military administration.

The Thai Army said the figures who were detained and then releasedsince the army took over the administration have to pledge to stoppolitical activities.-VNA
