Tay Ninh: Memorial service held for fallen soldiers returned from Cambodia

As many as 186 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who laid down during the wartime were reburied at the Hill 82 Martyrs’ Cemetery in the southern province of Tay Ninh on July 26.

Tay Ninh (VNA) – As many as 186 sets of remainsof Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who laid down during the wartime were reburiedat the Hill 82 Martyrs’ Cemetery in the southern province of Tay Ninh on July26.

Among 186 sets of remains reburied this time, 184 hadbeen returned from Cambodia while two others were found in the province.

The provincial leaders and military officials offeredflowers and incense to the fallen soldiers during a memorial service tocommemorate their sacrifices for the nation and the great international mission.

In his remarks at the event, Vice Chairman of theprovincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Ngoc said millions of Vietnamesesoldiers have bravely sacrificed their lives for the national independence andreunification and for the friendship and solidarity with Cambodia and Laoswhile thousands other have been wounded for these causes.

Over the years, Tay Ninh has worked with the Cambodianside to search and repatriate thousands of remains of Vietnamese volunteersoldiers in Cambodia, he added.

Ngoc also expressed his gratitude toward the support fromthe Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Cambodian authorities and people for searchteams from Vietnam to look for and bring the Vietnamese soldiers home.

Meanwhile in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum, 21sets of remains of soldiers who fought and sacrificed near the Yaly Waterfallin Ya Tang commune, Sa Thay district, were reburied at the district’s martyrcemetery on July 27.

In 1997, workers of the Song Da 9 JSC discovered theseremains together with bags containing many medical tapes and gauzes under theground when constructing Yaly hydropower plant.

The Song Da 9 JSC built a grave for them for worshippingin July, 2009 before they were brought to rest at the Sa Thay district martyrcemetery.

The Kon Tum Military Command has been working with othermilitary units in Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces to verify the identities of thefallen soldiers. –VNA
