Cruising along the Han River atnight or fishing on the rocks of Ngoc Islet off Hai Van Pass arebecoming popular forms of summer entertainment in Da Nang.

Thetour, which was introduced last year, is one of the latest tourismofferings to showcase the central city's diverse range of attractions.

LeViet Nam, managing director of Hoang Long Yen tours, says visitors cancruise at night along the Han River or go fishing at night off the coastof the Son Tra peninsula.

"We design and decorate wooden boatsfrom 10 to 30 seats with different options at night. They can even ordera night party on board in summer. However, fishing tours can make thetrip longer when we dock at rocks off the Son Tra peninsula coast orNgoc islet near the Hai Van Pass," said Nam.

A fleet of woodenboats will cruise from Bach Dang wharf, carrying passengers under theHan, Thuan Phuoc, Rong and Tran Thi Ly bridges and back within 60minutes.

All bridges crossing the Han River, which areilluminated by artistic LED lights, create a serene portrait of a cityat night. Tourists can tour the award-winning Rong bridge in the shapeof a dragon and witness it spit fire on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Visitors can also indulge in a night time seafood party or an onboard BBQ serenaded by a local guitar band.

TravellerTran Thanh said the Son Tra peninsula is a favourite location for bikeriders, featuring mountains with zigzagging roads up to nearly 700mabove sea level in a cool of forest and jungles.

Thanh added his group often books summer bicycle tours in the area.

Meanwhile, another traveller Nguyen Van Tuan said he prefers venturingthrough the mountains in vintage jeeps. Luckily for him, tour operatorsin the central city offer a range of 1960's jeeps for the more avidadventurers.

"We design a longer route for jeep tours so touristscan visit more than one destination in Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue city,"said Le Van Hiep, a tour operator in Da Nang.

"There are manycollectors of the US-made military jeeps in Hoi An and Da Nang. Theyalso provide vehicles for tourists travelling a long road from Hue toHoi An via Da Nang."

Situated north of the Son Tra peninsula, theGolden Sand is accessible by foot or cruise. It's an ideal location foradventurers wanting to camp for the night or stay in bungalows on the10ha eco-tour site.

Trippers can venture to the top of the SonTra peninsula by motorbike, bicycle or jeep. A dirt path, which connectsthe mountain to the Golden Sand, can be seen 300m above sea level.

"GoldenSand eco-tour is our favourite option. Visitors can engage in a rangeof activities including trekking, coracle paddling, kayaking andfishing," Nam said, adding the best time is between April and August.

Awhite and long beach, sandwiched between the rocks, is a rendezvouspoint for outdoor team building in the sun and exploring the coralreefs. A 50m zip line also allows tourists to make a 5m jump down to theway.

"Tourists can taste the fresh air and experience nature inthe Son Tra Natural Reserve. The cool air year round provides a relaxingenvironment for trippers," said Huong Ly, a tour operator.

"The quiet, peaceful and untouched environment is good for summer holidays."

The fishing tour starts late at around 9pm and takes a 40-minute run to Hai Van Pass before docking at the Ngoc Islet.

"Buddingfishermen can drop their line in untouched tropical coral reefs. Alighting system from the boat also helps to lure groupers and redsnappers. They can even cook or grill fish on board," said Nguyen TrungKien, a guide from the Son Tra tourism management board.

"Therock islet also preserves colourful coral reefs, where tourists can gosnorkeling or diving with oxygen marks. The tour is only 500,000 VND (24USD) per person for a group of 10."

Tran Thi ThuTrang, a tourist from Hanoi, said: "We enjoyed fun activities. We lovethe sea, the beach and hunting for snails and oysters on rocks."

"Mygroup spent a night on bungalow. We had a camp-fire, took snails fromthe rocks that tasted delicious," 🐓tourist Ho Van Phien s🐟aid. "I woulddefinitely do it again".-VNA
