Summer-autumn crop yields 11.5 million tonnes of rice

Vietnam’s rice output during the summer-autumn crop was estimated at 11.5 million tonnes, an increase of 127,500 tonnes, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam’s rice output during the summer-autumn cropwas estimated at 11.5 million tonnes, an increase of 127,500 tonnes, accordingto the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The total rice farming land for this crop was2.1 million hectares, with 1.93 million hectares in the southern region. TheMekong Delta region, the country’s granary, alone had 1.65 million hectares, representing98.6 percent of the same period last year.

By mid-October, 661,500 hectares in the Mekong Delta had been sowed for the autumn-wintercrop. Numerous localities pumped water into fields to enrich farming land andreduce diseases for the next crop.

The northern region had by mid-October harvested the winter rice crop on870,800 hectares, accounting for 76.7 percent of the total farming land,including the Red Delta harvesting on 418,400 hectares, or 77.1 percent of itscultivation land.-VNA
