Vallet scholarships were awarded to 549 outstanding students from universities, colleges and high schools across northern Vietnam at a ceremony on August 23.
Founder Professor Odon Vallet, Vietnamese-French Professor Tran Thanh Van and Professor Le Kim Ngoc presented the scholarships worth 5.4 billion VND (roughly 260,000 USD) to the students.
The event was attended by Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien and Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Hong Lam.
Each high school student received a scholarship worth 8 million VND (380 USD), while college and university students, post-graduates and research students received 14 million VND (about 680 USD) each.
Professors Vallet, Van and Ngoc will next travel to the central region and the South of Vietnam to continue the scholarship programme.
The Vallet Scholarship Fund has set aside 22 billion VND (more than 1 million USD) to award 2,250 outstanding Vietnamese students this year.
Since its establishment in 2001, the fund has awarded over 120 billion VND (5.5 million USD) to more than 25,000 students.
