Strong earthquake strikes Southeast Asia

Hanoi (VNA) ♋– An earthquake that struck both Myanmar and Thailand on March 28 had a magnitude of 7.7, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

Accordingly, the earthquake occurred at 12:50 pm Myanmar time with the epicentre located 16 km northwest of Sagaing, Myanmar, at a depth of 10 km. Earlier, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.9 in Myanmar and 7.3 in Bangkok, Thailand. The epicenter was located at a depth of 10 km, initially recorded at 21.9 decree north latitude and 95.65 degree east longitude.
The alarm systems in buildings were triggered, causing hundreds of residents to evacuate from high-rise buildings and hotels in central Bangkok.
Additionally, some metro and railway lines in Bangkok were temporarily suspended due to the tremors. Witnesses reported water sloshing out of swimming pools in several areas. So far, there are no reports of damage or casualties./.
