Hanoi (VNA) - Storm Damrey has wreakedhavoc in the south central coast of Vietnam, killing 27 people and leaving 22others missing by 8:00am on November 5, according to the CentralSteering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.|
The fatal victims were in Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa,Lam Dong and Dak Lak and a sunken ship, while the missing people were in BinhDinh and Phu Yen and in the sunken ship.
The storm pulled down 626 houses, unroofed anddamaged 39,704 houses in the region, mostly in Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, and Dak Lakprovince.
As many as 4,425 hectares of rice were inundatedand 25,212 hectares of crops were ruined. Up to 228 fishing vessels have beensunk while nearly 1,500 fishing farms were damaged in Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, andKhanh Hoa.
By 16:00 on November 4, all 110kV transformerstations have been resumed in Binh Dinh, three out of seven in Phu Yen, nineout of 11 in Khanh Hoa, three out of nine in Gia Lai, and two out of nine inDak Lak. Several areas in Phu Yen andKhanh Hoa still suffered from blackouts.
Binh Dinh and Phu Yen reported hundreds of metresof roads being flooded while Khanh Hoa saw landslides, causing traffic jams.Many trains were postponed in the province. Passengers are in safe and soundcondition.-VNA
Vietnam’s central and south central localities are taking measures to cope with storm Damrey, which is forecast to make landfall from Phu Yen to Binh Thuan provinces on early November 4.
Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has asked the south central province of Phu Yen to take urgent measures to cope with Typhoon Damrey, the 12th of its kind arising in the East Sea so far this year.
