State President visits AP’s first war photo exhibition

State President Truong Tan Sang visited the first-ever exhibition of photos taken by the US’s Associated Press (AP) war photojournalists in Hanoi on June 15, a reminder of the war and the value of peace and independence.
State President Truong Tan Sang visited the first-ever exhibition ofphotos taken by the US’s Associated Press (AP) war photojournalists inHanoi on June 15, a reminder of the war and the value of peace andindependence.

Over 40 years ago, the AP sent acontingent of photojournalists to Saigon, now known as Ho Chi Minh City,to cover the Vietnam War against the US.

Of theircollections, over 50 photos have been chosen to be displayed at theexhibition hall at 45 Trang Tien in downtown Hanoi, calling the publicattention to a true account of the war.

Among thehighlights is a photo of monk Thich Quang Duc on fire captured byMalcolm Browne in 1963 and the iconic “Napalm Girl” by Nick Ut in 1972.

The AP has won six Pulitzer prizes for its VietnamWar coverage, four of which are from the photo category and are ondisplay.

Following the exhibition, all exhibits will be gifted to the Vietnam Military History Museum.

The event is part of celebrations for the 20th anniversary of thenormalisation of Vietnam–US ties and is to foster mutual understandingbetween the two peoples.-VNA
