South Central – The "kingdom" of lobsters in Vietnam

As a high-class, nutrient-rich seafood specialty, lobsters have very high economic value. In the recent years, the South Central Coast has became the "kingdom" of lobster farming in Vietnam.
Lobsters are mostly found in the provinces of Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan. Lobster is the common name for a group of crustacean belonging to the Palinuridae family. As a high-class, nutrient-rich seafood specialty, lobsters have very high economic value. In the recent years, the South Central Coast has became the "kingdom" of lobster farming in Vietnam.
In particular, the two provinces Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa are playing the "capital cities" role. In 2017 alone, Vietnam's total lobster production reached over 1,530 tons. It helped bring more than 3,500 billion VND in revenue to lobster farmers. Lobster in Vietnam is mostly exported fresh whole.
The main markets are China and Singapore, the rest is for domestic consumption. Annual export output reaches over 1,200 tons (including wild caught lobsters) with a turnover of around 40 million USD. In 2020, the sector aims to raise lobster production to 1,940 tons/year of with the value of 3,200 billion VND. Around 2030, the output should be up to 2,200 tons of farm-raised lobsters with total value of 4,300 billion VND./.
