Hanoi (VNA) - The elections of deputies to the 15th NationalAssembly (NA) and People’s Councils at all levels in the 2021-2026 tenure onMay 23 were a success, NA General Secretary and Chairman of the NA Office BuiVan Cuong has affirmed.
Speakingto the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), Cuong, who is also a member of the NationalElection Council (NEC) and head of the NEC Office, said success is shown in thehigh voter turnout, smooth election activities, strict implementation ofpandemic prevention and control measures, guaranteed security, and effectivecommunications.
Aspirit of solidarity, national pride, and people’s trust in the Party and Statewere also promoted through the elections, he said.
Helauded localities’ efforts to overcome the difficulties posed by COVID-19 in organisingthe elections.
Cuongunderlined active and careful preparations, close coordination and a high senseof responsibility among forces engaged in election activities as being majorfactors contributing to the success.
Most cities andprovinces reported high rates of turnout of over 90 percent in the May 23elections, with some recording a rate of as high as 99.99 percent as of 10pmthe same day, reported the NEC. It was one of the majorpolitical events in Vietnam this year./.
The elections have attracted attention from international media. Reuters reported that tens of millions of mask-wearing Vietnamese went to the polls, noting the elections are taking place as Vietnam battles a new COVID-19 outbreak that is spreading rapidly.
