SMS campaign launched to support AO/dioxin victims

A text message campaign was launched in Hanoi on June 26 to raise funds in support of Agent Orange (AO)/Dioxin victims.

Hanoi (VNA)
– A text message campaignwas launched in Hanoi on June 26 to raise funds in support of Agent Orange(AO)/dioxin victims.

The Central Committee of Vietnam Association ofVictims of Agent Orange/dioxin (VAVA) and the National Humanitarian Portal 1400called on organisations and individuals to support the campaign by texting DACAM to 1409 from June 22 to August 20, 2018.

Each message will add 18,000 VND to the fund.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Senior LieutenantGeneral Nguyen Van Rinh, Chairman of VAVA, said the association has run the SMScampaign since 2011, collecting nearly 18 billion VND (784,800 USD) over thepast seven years.

He called on Vietnamese people at home andabroad as well as international friends to support the programme to helpAO/dioxin victims.

At the ceremony, the association presentedcertificates of merit to five collectives and one individual in recognition oftheir assistance for AO/dioxin victims in 2017 as well as gift packages to thevictims.

In 2018, the association aims to raise 1.5billion VND (65,475 USD) to provide medical check-ups and treatment, medicineand savings books for AO victims and help them upgrade houses.
