Hanoi (VNA) –
The land reclaimation, compensation and resettlementsupport for the construction of the Long Thanh International Airport in thesouthern province of Dong Nai is estimated to cost nearly 23 trillion VND (1.01billion USD), the Ministry of Planning and Investment said.

According to a feasibility study report on land compensation for Long Thanhairport recently submitted to the State Appraisal Council by the provincialPeople’s Committee, the work will be carried out one time and completed before2021. Site clearance will be prioritised for nearly 1,200 hectares of land usedfor the first phase of the airport construction.

To acquire nearly 5,400 hectares for the airport construction, 4,900 householdsand 26 organisations will be relocated.

Study shows that most of the affected families want to receive land in LocAn-Binh Son and Binh Son areas (Long Thanh district). The zoning of tworesettlement areas is in line with the province’s socio-economic developmentorientation towards forming a new urban area in the locality.

Local residents in the project area will receive training to get jobs in local industrialparks or at the airport.

In a bid to ensure progress of site clearance, the local authority has askedthe State Appraisal Council to soon verify the land reclamation, compensationand resettlement support project and submit it to the Prime Minister forapproval.

It has also urged the Ministry of Planning and Investment to join hands withrelevant ministries and agencies to arrange capital for the project during2018-2020.

The Long Thanhairport aims to serve 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo eachyear. The project includes three phases with the first one expected to be done nolater than 2025, the second by 2035 and the final after 2035.-VNA
