Singapore (VNA) - Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on May 21 announced his new cabinet, just over two weeks after securing strong public backing in the 2025 general election.

Speaking at a press conference at the National Press Centre, PM Wong described the new cabinet as Singapore’s strongest possible team.

The new line-up retains Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong – a key ally of PM Wong. Notably, the Singaporean Cabinet now includes only one deputy prime minister, marking a shift from the previous terms.

Three current ministers – K. Shanmugam, Chan Chun Sing and Ong Ye Kung – were reappointed to lead the Ministries of National Security Coordination, Public Services, and Social Policies, respectively.

All ministries saw at least one personnel change in this reshuffle. Most changes focused on bringing in younger leaders in the social and security portfolios, while the economic team remained largely unchanged. Nine new faces were appointed, while six senior officials retired, including former Deputy PM Heng Swee Keat, Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen, Dr Maliki Osman, Heng Chee How, and Dr Amy Khor.

The new cabinet will take effect on May 23, unless otherwise specified for individual appointments.

🅠 In the general election held on May 3, the People’s Action Party (PAP) of PM Wong secured 65.57% of the votes./
