Hanoi (VNA) – ဣSingaporean PrimeMinister Lee Hsien Loong on June 10 met with leader of the Democratic People’sRepublic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un ahead of the US-DRPK summit, which isscheduled for June 12.
At the meeting, the DRPK leader voiced hisbelief that Singapore’s role will be recognised if the summit goessuccessfully. Earlier, in his remarks posted in theStraits Times newspaper, the Singaporean PM expressed his hope that two-waytrade will increase if there is a bilateral agreement and United Nationssanctions against the DPRK will be lifted, although it will take a time. Singapore, the seventh largest tradepartner of the DPRK, suspended its trade relations with Pyongyang last yearamid escalating tension related to its nuclear and missile programme. The DPRK leader is set to meet US PresidentDonald Trump at 9am on June 12 (local time) to discuss the end of his country’snuclear programme. He will leave Singapore at 14pm on the same day.-VNA
