Singapore: two charged over flying drones without permit
Two Singaporean citizens were charged on July 5 over flying drones without a permit near an airbase, which is the first prosecution of its kind in Singapore.

Singapore (VNA) – Two Singaporean citizens werecharged on July 5 over flying drones without a permit near an airbase, which isthe first prosecution of its kind in Singapore.
Ed Chen Junyuan, 37, and Tay Miow Seng, 40, were each charged with operatingunauthorized operation of a small unmanned aircraft within 5 kilometres of PayaLebar Air base.
The men face a maximumfine of 20,000 SGD (14,700 USD) if found guilty. They will return to courton Aug 2.
The men are the first individuals to be charged with this particular offencefollowing the drone activity that disrupted operations at Changi Airport inJune.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, no one is allowed tofly drones within 5 kilometres of airports and military airbases, or ataltitudes above 60 metres without a permit in the country.
Popular use of drones has pose great challenge for airtraffic in many countries. Last year, Gatwich Airport in London had to ceaseoperation due to the presence of unmanned aerial vehicle, affecting tens ofthousands of passengers.-VNA
