Singapore is planning to build a comprehensive cycling network with bicycle paths connecting housing estates in the north, south, east and west to the city centre.

Hanoi (VNA) – Singapore is planning to build a comprehensivecycling network with bicycle paths connecting housing estates in the north,south, east and west to the city centre.
It is one of the plans that were announced by the Land TransportAuthority (LTA) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority on May 28 for a car-lite city centre, the Straits Times reported.
In the coming months, the LTA will be calling a tender for companies todesign and construct the proposed central area cycling network.
However, nofixed date for the project completion was revealed.
According to Gopinath Menon, a senior transport research consultant atNanyang Technological University, opening more cycling paths will encouragepeople to cycle longer distances, which they are currently wary of tryingbecause they do not feel safe on roads.
The LTA also announced that Singapore will allow commuters continuecarrying foldable bikes and personal mobility devices on board public transportfrom June 1.-VNA
