Singapore: Tighter security ahead of 17th Shangri-La Dialogue
Singapore is tightening security on the threshold of the 17th Shangri-La Dialogue, which will kick off on June 1, to ensure safety for delegates from over 50 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Singapore (VNA) – Singapore is tightening security on the threshold ofthe 17th Shangri-La Dialogue, which will kick off on June 1, toensure safety for delegates from over 50 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Police said that they are conducting road blocks andstringent security checks at the Shangri-La Hotel and in the vicinity duringthe three-day event.
The public is advised to comply with the police’sinstructions at these checkpoints.
Anyone who carries out activities that compromise securitywithin the area will be dealt with according to the law, police said.
Motorists are advised to avoid roads surrounding the hotel,particularly Anderson Road and Orange Grove Road.
They are also encouraged to plan their journey early astraffic is expected to be slow on these roads, police said.
Hotel visitors are advised to car-pool or take publictransport as parking facilities within Shangri-La Hotel will be limited.
Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced, and vehiclesfound parking indiscriminately or causing obstruction will be towed.
The public is also strongly advised against conductingaerial activities - such as flying kites and unmanned aircraft, and hoistingcaptive balloons - in the area during this period, police said.
This year’s dialogue is expected to have five discussionsessions, including those on the leadership role of the US and securitychallenges in the Indo-Pacific region, prevention of tension escalation in theDemocratic People’s Republic of Korea, and shaping Asia’s changing securityorder.
Discussions will also focus on maritime security, a code ofconduct and measures to enhance trust, security and humanitarian issues in theRohingya refugee crisis in Myanmar, among others.
The Vietnamese delegation to the dialogue is led by Vietnamese Defence Minister General Ngo Xuan Lich.-VNA
