Singapore PM in Myanmar to foster bilateral ties

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is on a three-day working visit to Myanmar to strengthen bilateral ties, according to Singapore ’s Prime Minister’s Office.

Singapore (VNA) – Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is on a three-day working visit to Myanmar to strengthen bilateral ties, according to Singapore ’s Prime 🌠Minister’s Office.

During the visit from June 7, the Singapore PM will meet Myanmar President Htin Kyaw, State Councellor and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Aung San Suu Kyi and a number of senior officials of Myanmar, as well as former President Thein Sein.
He will also attend a ceremony to inaugurate the Singapore-Myanmar Vocational Training Institute and meet the Singaporean community in the host country. The visit coincides with the 50 th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, affirming Singapore’s longstanding ties with Myanmar and underscoring Singapore’s commitment to support Myanmar ’s development.
Earlier in November 2014, PM Lee also paid a visit to Myanmar on the occasion of the ASEAN Summit in Nay Pyi Taw. Bilateral relations between Singapore and Myanmar have been growing recently. Last year, Singapore became the third largest investor in Myanmar after China and Thailand . As of April this year, Singapore climbed to the second position with total investment reaching 17.7 billion SGD (13 billion USD). Meanwhile, Myanmar was Singapore’s 28 th largest trade partner as of 2015. Two-way trade last year hit 3.5 billion SGD, a 9.6 percent rise over 2014.-VNA
