Singapore launches global tourism campaign

The Singaporean Government has recently announced a financial package of 20 million SGD (over 15 million USD) to implement a series of measures globally in an effort to draw international tourists to the island.
The Singaporean Government has recently announced a financial packageof 20 million SGD (over 15 million USD) to implement a series ofmeasures globally in an effort to draw international tourists to theisland.

The move came after statistics showed adecrease in the number of international visitors to the Southeast Asianisland nation in the whole year of 2014 and in the early months of 2015.

Addressing an annual Conference on Industry andTourism held on April 7, Singaporean Deputy Minister of Trade andIndustry S Iswaran underlined that the campaign is part of a three-wayapproach implemented by the Government to raise the number ofinternational visitors.

The three-way approach tothe hospitality industry includes pushing for in-depth development,boosting promotion activities, and sharpening its competitiveness.

According to the Singapore Tourism Board, the global campaign will bepromoted through various channels such as airway, hotels, retailservices, and entertainment activities with a focus on travellers fromIndonesia, China, and India.

Promotion andadvertising campaigns will be stepped up to introduce Singapore as afriendly and safe destination in the region and the world, especiallyduring the events and activities in anticipation with the country’s 50thNational Day anniversary.

The Government will alsoincrease financial support for travel companies, especially medium- andsmall-sized ones, to enhance their competitiveness, viatrademark-building, marketing, and data system improvement projects.-VNA
