The country is taking steps to expandthe liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure to accommodate domesticgas demand and relevant activities in the long run.

Apart from adopting competitive policy to secure new LNG supplies, theisland nation is focusing on solar technology which is considered themost viable renewable enery option for Singapore, the minister said.

He added that the Singaporean Government willestablish a 20-million-USD Energy Training Fund and 25-million-USDEnergy Storage Programme to serve the drive.

At thesame time, the minister announced that Singapore supports ASEAN’sefforts to strengthen regional energy security through interconnectivityprojects such as the Trans ASEAN Gas Pipeline and the ASEAN Power Grid(APG).

Beyond bilateral links, there is much potential for ASEAN countries to explore multilateral interconnections, he added.-VNA
