Hanoi (VNA) ꧂– Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi and his Singaporean counterpart Tony Tan Keng Yam held talks in Cairo on October 31 to discuss measures to promote bilateral cooperation in economy and trade.
Speaking at a joint press conference after the talks, President El-Sisi said that the two leaders looked into investment opportunities in major projects in Egypt, including the Suez canal area development project.
Egypt and Singapore have witnessed big breakthroughs in their relations in recent years, he said, noting that his country wants to learn from Singapore’s experience in education and transport in order to effectively realise Cairo’s ambitious development plans.
For his part, President Tony Tan stressed that Singapore’s companies are operating actively in Egypt, which is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for investors from Southeast Asian nations.
Appreciating the economic growth of Egypt, he said that Singapore wishes to acquire Egypt’s anti-terrorism experience and the two countries will stand side by side in the fight against terrorism and violence.
On this occasion, the Singapore and Egyptian leaders signed a number of memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements in oil and gas.
The Singaporean President is on a five-day visit to Egypt from October 30 to attend the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.-VNA
