🐻 - Singapore has made the top 10 rankings of the most competitive placesfor talent - the first time it has reached the elite level in a league tablecompiled by Swiss business school IMD.

It is also the only Asiancountry to make the list, which is dominated by European states. Switzerland topped the IMDWorld Talent rankings, followed by Denmark, Sweden, Austria and Luxembourg. Singapore rose three notchesto edge out Germany for the 10th spot. The rankings, whichappraise how 63 economies develop, attract and retain talent, are based onhistorical data as well as surveys of thousands of executives. Economies are then scoredbased on three categories of investment and development, appeal and readiness. Investment and developmenttakes into account indicators such as public spending on education,pupil-teacher ratio and health infrastructure, while appeal factors incomponents such as cost of living, worker motivation and quality of life. Readiness assesses aneconomy's ability to nurture skills among its populace that match those neededby its economy. Jose Caballero, an IMDsenior economist, noted that Singapore's ranking rose primarily because of itshigh scores for talent readiness. ButSingapore's appeal also dipped compared with the previous year. The reporthighlighted the cost of living index, effective personal income tax rates andexposure to particle pollution as areas where improvements can be made./.
