Shrapnel bombs cleared in central Quang Tri province

A mobile explosive ordnance disposal team of Peace Trees Vietnam has cleared 22 cluster bombs left from the war in Huong Hoa district, central Quang Tri province.

Quang Tri (VNA) - A mobileexplosive ordnance disposal team of Peace Trees Vietnam has cleared22 cluster bombs left from the war in Huong Hoa district, central Quang Triprovince.

The shrapnel bombs, which belonged to the US army, were found inthe garden of a resident in Tan Thanh commune.

The resident said sometimes she found arsenal buried in hergarden, after the rain washed away the mud.

The shrapnel bomb is very dangerous explosive ordnance, hencecould not be removed and was destroyed at the spot.

The explosive ordnance disposal team continued to check thegarden and nearby areas for bombs.

Quang Tri province was one of the hardest-hit provinces in the war. Nearly400,000ha of the 461,000ha province still contain bombs and mines. Every year,some 2,300-2,500ha of land is cleared.-VNA
