Senior military officials pay tribute to General Vo Nguyen Giap

Hanoi (VNA) – A delegation of the CentralMilitary Commission and the Ministry of National Defence on August 23 offeredincense to late General Vo Nguyen Giap on the occasion of his 110th birthday (August 25).
The delegation was led by General Phan Van Giang,Politburo member, Vice Secretary of the Central Military Commission, andMinister of National Defence.
Paying tribute to Giap at his memorial house in Hanoi,they expressed their gratitude to the general, who was a faithful revolutionary,an excellent disciple of late President Ho Chi Minh, an outstanding militarytalent, a great man of culture, a remarkable contributor to the revolutionarycause of the Party and the country, and an exemplary and prestigious leader ofthe Party, State, people, and army.
He was also the first general and considered the “EldestBrother” of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA). He helped develop the VPA into astrong and ever-victorious army.

Commemorating the “People’s General”, Giang wrote inthe remembrance book that General Giap’s talent, dignity, and revolutionaryethics are a bright example for the entire army to study and follow so as tobuild a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern army for constructing andsafeguarding the socialist Vietnam.
General VoNguyen Giap, whose real name is Vo Giap (alias Van), was born in Loc Thuycommune of Le Thuy district, the central province of Quang Binh on August 25,1911. He passed away in Hanoi on October 4, 2013./.
A contest on the life and career of General Vo Nguyen Giap will be organised from July 30 to August 25 for Vietnamese citizens at home and abroad on the occasion of the late General’s 110th birthday (August 25, 1911-2021).
A virtual exhibition featuring General Vo Nguyen Giap and ATK Thai Nguyen – a revolutionary land – opened in the northern province of Thai Nguyen on August 19, connecting with its nine localities, museums of Yen Bai, Lang Son, Son La, Bac Giang and Dien Bien provinces and the late general’s family.
