Seminar looks into potential of developing wind energy

The Danish Embassy in Hanoi, in collaboration with Danish wind turbine company Vestas, held a seminar in Hanoi on December 7 to consider the potential of developing wind energy in Vietnam.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Danish Embassy in Hanoi, incollaboration with Danish wind turbine company Vestas, held a seminar in Hanoion December 7 to consider the potential of developing wind energy and thebusiness of operating wind energy mills in Vietnam

Speaking at the event, deputy head of the Ministry ofIndustry and Trade (MoIT)’s Department of Electricity and Renewable Energy DoDuc Quan said renewable energy is proving increasingly competitive to othertraditional energy sources, adding that renewable energy development will helpVietnam diversify and become self-sufficient in power supply while protecting theenvironment.

The MoIT will continue refining legal framework and proposemechanisms to facilitate the development of renewable energy; study smart grid andenergy storage technology, and forecast capacity to fully tap access to powerusing renewable energy, he said.

According to the ministry, Vietnam now has only 6 operating windenergy mills with a total capacity of nearly 200MW.

Quan expressed his wish that Denmark could continue helpingVietnam with technology transfer, professional capacity improvement andproviding financial means via business links and collaboration in developmentresearch.

Danish Ambassador to Vietnam Charlotte Laursen said Denmarkwill help Vietnam achieve the goal of greener energy and strengthen bilateralenergy ties.

Earlier, the Danish Embassy, Tan Hoan Cau Corporation and VestasAsia-Pacific signed a Memorandum of Understanding on conducting studies on windstrength in Huong Linh commune, Hoang Hoa district, the central province ofQuang Tri. The two sides will build a research site for establishing a windenergy farm complex in Huong Linh commune through 6 sub-projects with minimumcapacity of 30 MW.-VNA
