Seminar expands int’l cooperation in hydrology, water resources security

Hanoi (VNA) – A seminar on the methodology ofhydrological analysis was held both online and offline on November 25, withinthe framework of the Inter-Governmental Hydrological Programme (IHP).
The event was co-hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources andEnvironment’s Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change (IMHEN)and the UNESCO Office in Vietnam.
In her opening speech, IMHEN Deputy Director Asso. Prof. Dr. Huynh ThiLan Huong said thanks to active involvement of member states, the firstpublication on hydrological analysis was published to share data, knowledge and experiencein water management and water science research.
The event is expected to share studies and experience in thesecond publication on the operation of water reservoirs towards prevention andmitigation of water-related disasters, water scarcity and degradation in waterquality. It also aims to expand cooperation within the international scientific community to thoroughly deal with issues regarding hydrology and water resources security, she said.
Dr Daisuke Nohara from the Japan Meteorological ResearchInstitute said water reservoirs in Japan are built mostly for agriculture,industry, daily use and flooding reduction.
He added that in the near future, Japan will upgrade dykes toexpand the capacity of water reservoirs, as well as work closely with managersand relevant units to make the best use of reservoirs for sustainablesocio-economic development.
🐓 Participants at the event also looked into hydrological trainingactivities and suggested ideas to the third publication featuring flood anddrought forecasting, and the impacts of climate change on water resources in thecoming time, among others./.
