Second Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day opens

Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang attended the opening ofthe second Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day, themed  "Books: Awareness - Innovation - Creativity",in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on April 21.

Speaking at theopening ceremony, Deputy PM Quang said over the past years, ministries,agencies, localities, publishers, libraries, businesses and individuals haveactively joined the activity, contributing to spreading book reading andgifting movement across the country.

He asked theMinistry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to spread reading culture and bringbooks to the community via honouring authors and bright examples.

♔ The activity willlast till May 1 with various events like a book exhibition, a book festival, aworkshop on digital transformation in publication, introduction of authors andworks about Hue, and seminars on socio-cultural and historical topics, as wellas development trends of the publishing sector and music performances featuring Hueroyal cultural heritages.

Eleven books kept bythe Hue Monuments Conservation Centre will alsobe introduced to the public.

Atthe event, the Ministry of Information and Communications announced acommunication programme for reading encouragement which aims to build columnsintroducing books, under a cooperation agreement with eight pressagencies.

ﷺ On the occasion, the provincial People’s Committee handed over 770 copies of the "Hue Bookcase" to 49 librariesthroughout the province./.

ꦗ Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee.
