Scrap imports through road, railway border gates to be banned

The import of scrap to use as material for production through road and railway border gates will be banned in Vietnam from February 22, according to a circular freshly issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Hanoi (VNA) – The import of scrap to use as material for productionthrough road and railway border gates will be banned in Vietnam from February22, according to a circular freshly issued by the Ministry of Industry andTrade.

The circular stipulates that dealers arenot allowed to import scrap through road and railway border gates, and allimport procedures have to be conducted in accordance with existing regulations.

The circular follows the Prime Minister’sdirective No.27 dated September 17, 2018, on intensifying the management overthe import and use of scrap as material for production.

Accordingly, the PM requested that theMinistry of Natural Resources and Environment does not grant new certificatesand extensions for entrusted importers of scrap and does not grant permissionfor scrap imports for preliminary processing.

The ministry should only consider theissuance of certificates for scrap importers who prove their demand for andcapability of using scrap as material for production and meet the requirementsfor environmental protection.-VNA
