About 1,090 projects of scientific research and technological developmenthave been implemented in five provinces and cities in the south-eastern regionin the period of 2015-17, according to a seminar themed “Promoting regionallinkage” held late last week.

The seminar, jointlyorganised by the Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee and the Ministry ofScience and Technology, heard that each locality used up to between 60-70 percentof the local budget for research projects that deploy and apply science andtechnology.

Speaking at the seminar,Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Cong Tac, said the south-easternregion has a number of advantages to develop the local service and industrysectors, but it also is facing many problems, especially those related to theinter-provincial connectivity.

He said provinces andcities should enhance co-operation with each other regarding scientificresearch and technological applications to create an industrial value chain andpromote local products with unique values, thus improving competitiveness atinternational markets.

In addition, sharingscientific research and technological developments among localities isnecessary to avoid wasting investment and time, as in the case of duplicatedprojects.

The localities shouldestablish steering committees to make supporting policies for start-upprojects.

It was necessary to buildan information infrastructure system that could be easily accessed bylocalities for management and operations, which would create linkages for theregion, Tac said.-VNA
