Sanitation project benefits Binh Dinh locals

As many as 520 hygienic toilets have been built in the central province of Binh Dinh thanks to a sanitation project funded by the East Meets West non-governmental organisation.
As many as 520 hygienic toilets have been built in the centralprovince of Binh Dinh thanks to a sanitation project funded by theEast Meets West non-governmental organisation.

Thefacilities will be handed over to households living under the povertyline in Tay Son, Phu My and Tuy Phuoc districts, according to theprovincial Preventive Medicine Centre.

The projectwith a budget of 687,510 AUD (649,000 USD) is being carried out between 2013 and2017 with the aim of supplying clean water for 3,254 families andsupporting the construction of toilets meeting the health ministry’sstandards on sanitation for 4,250 others.

Accordingto the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), over 45 percent of ruralfamilies in Vietnam use unhygienic toilets or have none at all.Poor sanitation is blamed for diarrhea and pneumonia which are the maincauses of death among children under five.-VNA

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sens🌞ing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.
